Brian Lim, also known by his stage name, BINNY, has released a new music video featuring anime visuals accompanied by his song “Retrograde”, which is inspired by the behaviors of different astrological signs when Mercury is in Retrograde. His impressive falsetto, smooth and seductive lo-fi beats and silky R&B melodies capture his heart and emotion when yearning to be with someone you shouldn’t.
BINNY was born and raised in Maryland to a family of musicians and learned how to play piano and guitar at an early age. He grew up doing theater and was part of numerous productions. In college, he was part of an award-winning acapella group that competed in the International Championships of Collegiate Acapella (ICCA) on Broadway. He has also garnered acclaim from the likes of Earmilk, Live Nation’s Ones to Watch and Atwood Magazine.
The name “BINNY” derives from the Vietnamese name, Tri Binh, which means peace. He strives to represent Asian American’s in pop culture and mainstream music, something that he feels lacks equal recognition. He says, “I hope to be apart of that change and be an inspiration for other Asian Americans who want to pursue music.”
